Connecting Our Community to Hope, Love, and Life in the Moment
Our Mission is to create a community of connections that bring hope, love, and life in the moments
that we share with our friends living with memory loss, the loved ones who care for them, and our volunteers.
Connections is about meeting and loving our neighbors where they are and being in the moment with them.
What is a Respite?
Respite means: an interval of relief. The word is usually used when a caregiver needs some time away, but couldn’t we all use a respite? For a caregiver, a respite means time to run errands, handle business or just rest. A respite for someone with memory loss can be relief from lonely isolation or separation from their friends and community. Connections is a respite for all of us. It’s a place where we can form friendships, have some fun, socialize, worship and give back to our Eufaula community.
Connections meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Eufaula. Lunch is provided.
This ministry provides an environment where people with memory loss due to conditions like Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, or stroke can fellowship and serve. Participants will have the opportunity to socialize with others in a safe environment while enjoying:
- Arts & Music
- Cognitive and Physical Exercise
- Bible Study/Devotional
- Pet Therapy
- Service Projects
- Intergenerational activities
- Games and Puzzles
Enrolling a Loved One
Enrollment in Connections is available at an affordable cost. Participants in Connections must be independent in the following:
- Attending to their own bathroom needs
- Participating in social activities
- Feeding themselves
Caregivers are invited to contact Caty Richardson at email@example.com to learn more about enrolling in Connections or to receive an application packet. You may also call the FUMC office at (334) 687-8227.
Become a Volunteer
Our team needs enthusiastic and caring volunteers ready and willing to make connections through their time and friendship. Opportunities include working with participants on Connections days, preparing and serving lunch, providing a short devotional, helping with art projects, leading music, leading a group activity or continuing education class, or working with our team on office or clerical work and recruiting more volunteers and participants. Give us one day and we believe you will be blessed.
We would like for all volunteers to have some training in how to communicate and relate to those we serve. Training manuals are available to review and training sessions will be scheduled in the future. If you would like to volunteer, you can send us your information the link below or contact Caty Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also call the church office at (334) 687-8227.
